We went to the zoo today, and had another good day! :D

They are doing a special offer at the moment. You pay your entrance fee, and if you get your ticket stamped, you can visit the zoo again, as many times as you want over the following 60 days, free of charge.

You have to take your passport so they can write your number on the back of the ticket, and they also keep a record of it.

We'll be going back at Easter, as it is a good day out. If you live here, and have got residencia, it's 12 euros to get in.

They are also running free buses from Corralejo and Caleta to the zoo. :D

Thats really good news about the free buses to the zoo. Will they be running over the summer do you think? How often do they run and on which days?Sorry for so many questions. We love visiting the zoo and go about twice a year. How are the baby giraffes.Aaw,they were so cute. Not so small now I suspect. We think that the zoo is one of the main attractions of Fuerteventura for kids and adults alike,it can fill a whole day of your holiday and if they publicise the free buses well,it will attract many more people. We also like to visit the garden centre there.

Do you only get a discount with residencia or can you get a discount with a padron certificate?

I think they'll be running the free buses through the summer, as they've got alot of 'zoo' coaches now.

The free bus pickup times (they run on every day of the week), on the leaflet I've got are:

Piramides/Costa Tropical in Nuevo Horizonte - 0930

Barcelo Hotel, Caleta - 0940

Caleta Dorada (Reception) - 0940

Repsol Petrol Station (Atlantico Centre) - 0940

The return bus from the zoo is at 17.00

The admission price for the zoo is 19.50 euros for adults and 10.25 for children aged 3-11.
With residencia the price was 12 euros.

Yesterday they were putting up new signs (in Spanish, German and English) saying that to get residents discount you need to show your residencia or passport. So I'm not sure whether they will accept the empadriamento certificate. They used to, because we got discount when we used ours before getting residencia.

There are 7 giraffes at the zoo, and the 'babies' are quite grown up! :D

They are still building the new elephant compound. There is one elephant there at the moment, and the lady in the office told us that they are getting two more.

Thanks for all the info.Filbert.Cant wait to go and see the elephant and will pass the information on to family and freinds who use our apartment. Some people dont like to drive in a different country so the free buses are a great idea.

You don't neccssarily have to go to the zoo. You could go snorkelling. :D

You could just go on the camel safari, or go to the garden centre. I'm not sure whether you could buy a big plant and put it in the luggage compartment of the coach though! :P

I also thought it would be possible to catch the service bus into either Costa Calma or Jandia.

My family are going to try out the free bus tomorrow.

Sally and Bethany went to the zoo on the free bus yesterday.

They caught it at the Barcelo Hotel. There were about 20 people on it. No tickets or paperwork is issued - you just get on the coach. It drops off in the car park at La Lajita, it arrived at 10.20am.

So it would be possible to go into La Lajita village, or catch the service bus further south.

If you are going into the zoo, you just make your way to the admission desk. Sally and Bethany took advantage of the offer of the free visit! They had a meal and drinks there, and paid for a photo with the parrots, so at least the zoo did make some money out of them!

The coach left the car park at 5pm, and was back in Caleta by 5.50pm. The only surprising thing was that there were more people on the coach on the return journey.

There was a mix of older people, families and young people who took advantage of the offer. :D

You would think that with all those headless camels they would get (receive) more visitors.
