Some big games coming up.
Villaverede Norte (4th in the league) v CD Las Playitas (top)
CD La Oliva (2nd) v CF Tiscamita (3rd).

If Las Playitas win at Villaverde they will be champions. If not it's all down to the final games.

Current standings :
Las Playitas (played 24 points 54)
La Oliva (24; 50)
Tiscamita (24; 49)
Villaverde Norte (24; 45).

Not that I care who wins the games, but surely Villaverde doesn't have a north team AND a south team, does it? I wouldn't have said it was big enough for a floodlit field at all but that seems to be the first thing the councils spend their money on here.

Villaverde North End!

I think these games tend to be played on a Friday night, which is OK when it has warmed up a bit, but it would be much too draughty for me in the winter.

I'm not sure of the origin of the club's name, but don't think there are any other clubs in Villaverde. Perhaps Deepdale is right and they were inspired by Preston North End.
I would argue about it being cold on a Friday night in Villaverde in the winter - if you've ever been to watch a midweek night game in winter at Inverness Caledonian Thistle Reserves, now that is cold!
It's quite a nice little ground at Villaverde - you can spot the floodlights from the main road - and I'm sure that the council reckon it's money well spent, because in addition to the senior team there are a number of junior sides for different age groups, all helping to give local youngsters a focus and a sense of civic pride.

Yes, all the football pitches on the island are well used by a range of different age range teams, every night of the week and weekends.

Last night's result : Villaverde Norte 3 CD Las Playitas 2.

Top the table is now :

Las Playitas (played 25 points 54)
La Oliva (played 24 points 50)
Tiscamita (played 24 points 49)
Villaverde (played 25 points 48).

The La Oliva-Tiscamita game is due to be played tonight, so with one game to go for Las Playitas and two each for La Oliva and Tiscamita any one of them could still win the title.

Game on!

La Oliva beat Tiscamita 2-1 last night, in front of a fair sized crowd.

That result means the championship is now between Las Playitas (54 points) and La Oliva (53 points), with one game to go.

Las Playitas are still favourites as they are at home to Chilegua (nearly bottom of the league), whilst La Oliva travel to Jandia.
