I wouldn´t want to pour cold water on anyone´s desire to move here, but a lot of people come and go because they see a bar that is full and think that the owners must be raking it in, or they think that the boss not doing a great deal so it would be a good way to be on holiday and make some money.

Some may be, but most that have a half successful bar work long hours without much help when they set out.

There is a pattern that probably repeats itself throughout the world in tourist areas where people open a bar in a place they see as a great place to live, lose their money because it doesn´t work, and have to move back home.

Lots of people probably see the Canary Islands as an all year round destination and assume that any bar will be as busy all year as it was when they went in the peak season. It won´t be.

The people that lose their money do not do the sums. Besides that they have no business experience and think that having worked in a bar is enough experience to open one in a foreign country. It isn´t.

Yes, the Red Lion Pool at the Villa Florida complex is up for rent.

As Deepdale says, running a bar to make a profit is not easy here. There are too many bars for the amount of tourists that are here. Many smaller bars change owners regularly because they can't make enough money.

My brother lives down Mill Lane in Barrow, near to the Navigation Inn :D

He's always wanted to live on a narrow boat.

No. I'm a self-employed English teacher, teaching Spanish children and adults. Plus, I clean a bar every morning and work as an evening kitchen assistant, and anything else that comes along!

Yes, all the schools are Spanish. The nearest ones to Caleta are in El Matorral and Antigua.

Your boys will find it extremely difficult to cope in school. My children were 9 and 5 when we moved over, and they learnt the language in about 18 months. It's so difficult to learn if you don´t understand Spanish.

The younger the child, the easier it is for them to learn the language and achieve good results in school.
