Sadly last week there was a large fire at the warehouse of Fuerte Trade Kitchens.

This is a quote from Paul

The warehouse has been completely destroyed. Everything. We are pretty shell shocked at the moment. I only found out myself today, at lunch time, after coming home from a dive. I left Lanzarote immediately and caught the 13.15 Armas ferry back to the island. When I arrived at the warehouse I was lost for words. Over 250,000 Euros in assets, and 3 years of building, literally up in smoke.

As we are on Summer shutdown, which started on the evening of the 14th, we fortunately do have about 12 days, to put in place alternative solutions for clients Kitchens that were destroyed in the fire. I think everyone who really knows FTK, also know that we place the client first, and would never let the client down. Please note, any client who is awaiting installation, that we cannot now accommodate within the original agreed timeframe, will be offered a full refund of their deposits.

I have spent the afternoon with the Bank, The Policia Local, and the Fire Dept. We will be meeting with the Guardia and Insurance Company on Monday.

Because of our Just in Time Stock system, for None Stock items, most clients will not be affected. However we will need time to make alternative storage arangements.

When I say that EVERYTHING has been totally destroyed, I really mean everything, including all of our Electronic Systems. Fortunately we do have Backup Systems in place, and we should by Monday, know exactly what our recovery position is. Hopefully by not too long after Monday, we will have our email communications back, and client files. Again, another bonus here is that all of the Paper Files, that have been destroyed, are all created from our electronic client files, so with a bit of luck we should be OK. If not, all of our clients have copies of everything we have agreed with them, so by forwarding this back to FTK we can achieve the same.

Please, until notified here, DO NOT email our fuertekitchens.com domain. This domain ran on an Exchange Server, and therefore until our Systems are restored, we cannot access.

I left the island again this evening for Lanzarote, as being the weekend I cannot do a thing until Monday. Furthermore, to be totally honest, I cannot bring myself to keep answering the same questions, from every well wisher I meet on the street. Don't get me wrong, it is really nice that people care sufficiently to ask, but until Monday the only genuine answer I can give is "I don't know" Anyone who knows me will understand how frustrating that is?

Thanks again for all of the support.

Paul

Symphies to Paul and his team and I hope they will come back bigger and better in the future.

Hi All. Paul from FTK with a further update.

A little doom and gloom at the moment I'm afraid! Well certainly for us and certainly not for our clients, but here we go anyway: - We have now finally had word back from our insurers. Until now, we have only been allowed to communicate with their Loss adjuster. So, listen to this one, and if you think you have problems, well maybe think again?

We have been advised that although the Insurance Company have accepted our claim, there will be NO payment, or Advance until the cause of the fire has been determined. The reason for this? We are covered, apparently, for every eventuality except an electrical fire which was caused by any of our Electrical Machinery. So, until the landlord clears the site, and the Fire Brigade are allowed to do their Forensic study, NO payment whatsoever will be made!

Now considering it was 10 weeks gone Friday since the fire, I'm a little concerned as to the possibility of the cause ever being determined? The Insurance Company have now said that they will start to bring pressure on our landlord to clear the site! (That surprised me as in their own words, this would speed up any settlement, and that does not sound like a typical insurance company?)

We have therefore decided that we should forget how things are normally conducted in Fuerteventura, and will seek legal advice from our lawyer's when I get back to the island next Wednesday, with the view to appointing a specialist lawyer in Madrid, or anywhere other than the islands.

Now some of you may be thinking, "Why do they not pay for the clearance themselves" Well unfortunately, the clearance estimate, is somewhat higher than our actual Insurance Claim, and as the landlord has openly stated that he IS NOT INSURED, AND HAS NO MONEY FOR THE CLEARANCE, I think you can all see now, how counterproductive that would be?

My main UK business Partner Howard Eggleston has a good friend who is a Senior Officer in the Cleveland Fire Brigade. He says it is absolutely ridiculous to expect the Forensic report to come back as anything other than UNDETERMINED after such a long period. So that might sound like good news, but until the report is conducted and filed, we are left out to dry!

We obviously know our building, and its contents. The only Electrical Machinery we had on site was a Professional Table Saw, only purchased in March 07 at a cost of almost 8,000.00â?¬, a Professional Blum Hinge Cutter, a Ryobi Professional Chop Saw, 2 x Compressors and an Extraction System. As we were on 2 week annual shutdown, all of this equipment was switched off, and therefore, in our opinion, not capable of faulting a fire. All of our other hand tools etc. were pneumatic, ran off the 2 x Compressors mentioned above. Of course we had many PCs, Printers, and Peripherals, however with the exception of our Exchange and Network Server, all of this equipment was also shutdown for the holiday period.

After talking to Insurance assessors here, back in the UK, and Health and safety Consultants with access to Senior Fire Officers, it is their Opinion that this fire could not possibly have been started by any of our equipment. However whether or not this opinion will be accepted by our Insurers is anyoneâ??s guess?

Now just for the â??Slow to grasp thingsâ?

Looking Forward to a brighter 2008

Hi, and everyone at FTK wishes all our clients a very prosperous 2008. We could also do with one ourselves !! I think it is now time to put the fire of Aug 2007 firmly behind us and move on to what we have planned for 2008. In March we will open a new showroom in the heart of Puerto del Rosario, with our Spanish Door Manufacturing Partner. This will provide clients who want to see and touch the physical product, exactly that. We do not intend opening massive warehousing again, as with the knowledge and experience we have picked up during the last 3 years, we simply do not require. Most, over 80%, of our clients never visit us anyway! These clients transact there business over the internet via email, where they are provided with detailed plans and realistic 3D images of their proposed Kitchens prior to ordering. Once completed they also receive completion photographs which match exactly the plans and 3Ds that the contract was based on. We are planning a significant update to our Web Site, but this will take a little time because of the sheer amount of data already on-line. (268 Examples of Fitted Kitchens and 100 Examples of None Kitchen works) The Web is our greatest source of business and we will therefore concentrate our best efforts here, in an almost Back to Basics approach.

We will be providing a new section in examples of our work, called after the fire! This will let new and existing clients see that we are still turning out the highest quality work.

Since the Fire in August we have been very busy fulfilling our obligations to all clients we had previously agreed works with. With the exception of Amuley Mar II Garage Conversions, which have not yet been granted planning permission, we have now installed all previously agreed work, where the clients have completed on their properties. Of the 3 clients who did not complete their purchases until this week, their work is also scheduled for January. It was important to clear this work as quickly as possible for 2 reasons:

1st We needed to protect and maintain the excellent reputation we had built over the last 3 years.

2nd All of this work has been fitted at a loss, as we obviously had to re buy, everything that had already been purchased for these clients, prior to the fire. That of course is our problem and will be rectified eventually, when our Insurers settle.

We have also been very busy with new client installations since October 2007. This work has been life blood to us, as the profits from the new work, has obviously help offset the losses, from the other work described above. So a BIG THANK YOU to all existing and new clients who have put their trust in FTK. In total we have completed over 25 Kitchens and 15 Other Building works since the fire.

For anyone who is interested with the progress we are making with our insurers, we will now post in the News section of our Web Site, regular updates. The current situation is that our insurers have now agreed to finance the clearing of the warehouse, however they first of all require the Landlords permission. Sounds crazy, but thatâ??s how it is, so we are now just letting the lawyers get on with it.

So please make no mistake, FTK are back, and with the intention of staying and building further on our reputation to date. Thanks. Paul Palmer â?? Administrator.
