According to statistics the population of Fuerteventura increased by 3500 during 2009, and the total is now 107,000.
Half of the new residents have settled in the La Oliva district.

Fuerteventura is the only Canary Island to have shown a population increase.

It's also said that 4000 houses remain unoccupied on the island.

I wondering who do they actual count in the population figures. If you have your padron certificate do they count you as a part of the population?

I'm not sure how it's worked out. The empadromiento must have something to do with it, because based on the number of people registered then the local council an amount from Central Government to provide local services.

There has never been a census while I've been here (6 years) so I don't know how the official figures can be accurate as there are always so many people coming and going on the island. Who would know if me and family left the island? And how many people live here and are not registered in any way?

Lots of questions :D to be answered.

Hopefully I would know Filbert, but I lose track counting past 100 anyway.

How are things with you and yours? Its interesting in the uk, as snow has been on the ground all over the country since a week before Christmas. We are running out of grit and have had to send for emergency supplies of gas. Its been -18 in Greater Manchester, still its warmed up a lot since then only -6!

We're all fine here in sunny Fuerteventura, except it's back to school tomorrow! The coldest it's been here is 16 degrees at night. It's nice for us to read and see pictures of the snow, and I can't imagine being that cold.

I thinks that these figure are not much true. Because immigration for people is still continue. They are coming and going, we know that there are big number of people had not register themselves.
