An asociación de vecinos has been set up in Costa Antigua, which was called Nuevo Horizonte.

The people who set it up have been working on the project for a while and it seems to have got off to a good start.

There was a get together yesterday where residents of the area got together and worked on putting plants into the roundabouts in the area.

The total turnout was between 40 and 50 and most of the complexes in the area were represented.

There will be a meeting tomorrow, Saturday, in the Costa Tropical hotel followed by a disco afterwards.

Adults only in the disco and there will NOT be a free bar. :D

I spoke to the president of the association yesterday.

He told me that next week a couple of areas are to be tidied up by a team of workmen.

They are the area in front of the red crane and the hole behind the bus stop.

Here are a few suggestions for the area:-

*The ground behind the bus stop would be perfect for a medical centre.
*The ground opposite the Elba Hotel and between the new villas opposite Oli's, a children's playground with a few cafes for mums/dads to sit and watch the little ones play.
*The ground to the left of the Elba an older peoples day/community centre with entertainment such as dances, bingo etc.
*The derelict water park to be turned into a roller skate park and skateboarding park.

and finally, the ground between Neuvo and Caleta turned into a water park.

Wouldn't all that be great! 8) 8)

And if there was money to build them, then they'd all close within months due to lack of support and trade

The cleanup has included the eyesore that was visible on the right as you went down the hill. It looks a lot better.

The Cabildo have put up signs saying they are cleaning up in the area, but this has come about due to the efforts of the people running the association.

Well done to them.

There will be a fiesta on 30th May. 5 euro for members and 7 for non members including food and a drink.

I saw the big Cabildo sign when I was on the bus last night.

By all accounts this work seems to be carrying on and I have been told that the area is looking much much better.Long may it keep going.I myself think that Neuvo gets undeserved bad press sometimes and welcome anything that improves peoples image of it.

Everywhere looks very presentable, and further improvements are planned.

I'd like to agree that it got bad press, but if I was being honest I would have to say that much of what was said about the place was true, especially in terms of the way it looked.

If you live in a place that has signs of dilapidation and decay you just get used to it. The area in front of Caleta Paraiso and Cocosol was a complete tip with piles of rubble, fallen fencing, remanats of scaffolding and heaps of unused building materials.

One option would have been to fence it off so that it would not have been visible from the road. Some people think that out of sight is out of mind. Tidying it up was obviously the best option.

Besides having tidied up the major eyesores in the area other things have been done such as beautifying the roundabouts and painting the electricity sub stations which were covered in graffitti or advertising posters for long-gone events. Rusty road signs have also been replaced.

There are plans to install facilities for the young and old and these are in the process of being done. They are also working on putting footpaths up hill from Antigua Bay to Caleta Paraiso.

As a result of the general improvement in the area at least some of the complexes have decided that they need to improve the image of their complex as seen by outsiders, so as to not let the area down.

The fiestas held in honour of Santiago (Saint James) were a success.

This being August not a lot is happening because the whole of Spain generally shuts down for August.

I think the installation of the street lighting has been completed and the new bins are in place. I think there are plans to put some on the track that runs along the tree-lined avenue at the entrance to Costa Antigua.

At the end of this month the logo on the mountain will be moved higher up the hill, making it more visible from the road.

The money is in place to deal with the demolition of the old sewage treatment plant area that is adjacent to Jardin Horizonte and Los Soles. The job will be put out to tender next month and should be completed within a few months.

There is to be a series of meetings with the owners of various communities to ask about their views on what can be done to improve things from their point oif view. First one will be with Fuerteventura Park.

Work is due to start on the area where the fiestats were held in September.
