I've read on the BBC site that the National Football Museum could be moved from Preston's Deepdale to the Urbis Centre in Manchester.

I didn't even know there was such a museum! Has anyone been?

In the report it says that 'up to 100,000 people currently visit the museum each year' which opened in 2001.

Yes, the National Football Museum is currently located at Deepdale. I don't know about plans to move it but I think it should stay at the place where football has been played for the longest period of time.

There is an online petition at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/FootballMuseum/ . I'm not sure it will be top of Gordon's thing to do list, but it may make a difference.

It's a superb museum second only to the National Railway Museum at York IMHO. Every fan should make the pilgrimage and see the artifacts. The oldest England shirt in the world was the highlight for me. All wool with the badge sewed on by the players family!

Good idea

The National Space Museum is in Leicester - a strange choice of location

Tom Finney said he would withdraw all his memorabilia if it moved. Newspaper article here said the new Wembley should be the location (yawn London again!)

I've just read that the decision to move it to Manchester was made on Wednesday.
