The annual craft fair is held at Antigua, over the second weekend in May.
The event takes place on the sportsground in Antigua. There are usually well over a hundred stalls in covered marquees and areas, and crafts people from all over the Canary Islands show not just their wares, but demonstrations of their crafts. A wide variety of crafts are on show, like furniture making, basket weaving, a variety of leather goods, jewellery making, pottery and musical instrument making. It is very interesting to see unique articles being crafted, and to see the creativity of those living on the islands.
The Craft fair opens officially on the Thursday evening with speeches, presentations and local singing and dance groups. On the Friday the feria is visited by coach loads of children from various schools on the island, making it a very noisy affair indeed. Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday are the popular visiting times for locals and tourists to visit. At these times there is a programme of events, such as traditional singers and dancers, and demonstrations of traditional Canarian sports.
The event is free to get in, and is attended by around 30,000 people over the 3 days. Inside the showground there is an area where you can buy food, drink and Canarian produce.

In the centre of the main arena, you can find traditional canarian music and dancing. You may also see a display of Canarian sports.
At the bottom end of the main arena, there is a bar in the building that holds the competitions of Canarian Wrestling, which is very popular on Fuerteventura, most towns will host competitions.

Another of the buildings holds stalls with Canarian food and drink for you to tase and buy. I particularly like the aniseed biscuits. You can also get jams made from Cactus, and purchase aloe vera, which is used here to relieve a wide range of symptoms.

Although the Feria is on for three days the first day is when the schoolchildren are taken and this can make it a very noisy affair. Also the children tend to walk in a line holding hands and it is difficult to get to the front of the stalls.
If you happen to be on the Island when the fair is held it is well worth spending a few hours there.
