Cruising around the Canaries

Each winter season the cruise ships visit Fuerteventura from around early October until mid April. Each winter sees an increase in cruise ship tourism as efforts to promote the island are made.

The most frequent visitors are the Aida group. Its a German based group, and during each seven night cruises their ship visits the islands of Madeira, La Palma, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria before returning to its starting point on Tenerife.

Marbella also do seven nights on the Marella Dream, which cruises around the Canary Islands, Calling at Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Funchal, Madeira, Arrecife,Puerto del Rosario, Tenerife andGran Canaria.

Tui also offer fourteen night cruises calling at Gran Canaria, Agadir, Morocco, Arrecife, Tenerife, La Gomera, Gran Canaria,Funchal, St Cruz De La Palma, Tenerife,Puerto del Rosario and Gran Canaria.

The Kristina Regina route, visits seven of the Canary Islands in a one week cruise, going from Las Palmas - Puerto del Rosario - Arrecife - Santa Cruz de Tenerife - San Sebastian de la Gomera - Santa Cruz de la Palma -Puerta la Estaca - Las Palmas.

Given a day in port it is possible to take part in a number of activities. Some of the tourists from the cruise ships travel around the islands capital on bicycles. There is a bus service, the number 17 that leaves from the gates of the port and calls in at Caleta de Fuste on its way to Gran Tarajal . It is also possible to take the regular bus services to other parts of the island. Other passengers go on Trike Tours, hire a car or go on organised tours.
