One of the first events during the 24 hours was the Vela Latina. A yatch race. This set off from the harbour in Corralejo

Then during the evening there was a show held a at the Recindo ferial, to elect the La Oliva beauty queen which also had lots of musical entertainment that went on into the late night.

The entertainment went on until the early hours. Well actually it didn't stop, there was a parade through the main street of Corralejo during the early hours that I tried to sleep through!
In the early(ish) hours of the next morning lots of people were out swimming. some for fun, some more serious, some even doing a "just for fun" triathlon.

Later that day came the religious festival of the Fiestas en honor a Ntra. Sra. del Carmen, when the religious icon is brought from the church, placed into a boat and sailed around the harbour followed by a whole host of both large and small boats, even the Lanzarote ferry seemed to join in at one point. The sea is blessed, presumably to keep the sailors and the fish stocks safe.

As this is a very old tradition some of the locals like to wear traditional Canarian Dress.
The statue of Ntra. Sra. del Carmen was carried back to the church amid singing, dancing and loud bangs that soundied like rocket attacks, but the harbour should be safe for another year.
