Election of the queen of the carnaval grand gala. Puerto del Rosario.

The election of the queen of the carnaval takes place at the Recinto Ferial in Puerto del Rosario, where a large stage is constructed to link in with the theme of the Carnival. The outfits worn by the cotestants are spectacular.

The stage at the Recinto Ferial is also used for various other Carnival events in the evenings. There are all night open air parties on the night before Carnival Tuesday (a local public holiday) and after the Grand Carnival Parade on the last Saturday evening. A big feature of Carnival are the local Murga Groups. These are 30 or so people who all wear the same brightly coloured fancy dress costumes and sing satirical songs. Most of the groups are men. They have two nights of Murga singing on the stage.
