Alicante v UD Fuerteventura

Alicante beat UD Fuerteventura 3:0 in the away leg of the playoffs 2008

About 30 hopeful UD Fuerteventura fans made the journey to Alicante to see the away game of the playoffs. Alicante had about around 10,000 fans! The home game was played the week before and ended in a 0:0 draw.

The match was delayed from its original 6pm kick off and it was just as well as there was a heavy rainstorm at that time. The weather cleared though for the 8.30 kick off. As we met up with the other fans we were given a free t shirt, hat and ticket for the game. Thanks to the organisers for that.

Pre Match Build up

Fuerteventura needed to score as away goals counted double if the goal was a tie. Sadly though despite UD having chances to score. Alicante scored twice very quickly after about 30 minutes of the game had passed and this hurdle proved too much for UD and a third goal was scored just before the end of the game.

Still the supporters enjoyed the game and the very disappointed team came over at the end to throw their shirts to the UD fans that attended! Still to get to the playoffs in their first season in the league is a great achievement.

So congratulations to the whole of the team and roll on next season! And don't forget we won a place in the Copa del Rey. (Kings cup)
