U.D. Fuerteventura beat Lanzarote 2.1 in local derby

This highly anticipated game was a generally dull affair, but it burst into life in the last twenty minutes and the home fans went home the happier of the two sets of supporters, Fuerteventura having taken the three points by the same scoreline as the first game of the season.

The game started of as a cagey affair in which both teams gave emphasis to the defensive side of their game. As a result the most important piece of action in the first half saw Maciot limp off after an of the ball incident that the referee did not see. If the Lanzarote players and fans were pleased to see the back of Maciot, they would not have been happy to see Memo take the field.

The game was more open in the second half, but seemed to be drifting towards a goaless draw when good work by Fuerteventura's forwards resulted in Memo having space to put the ball past the helpless Marino in the Lanzarote goal.

The outcome of the game seemed likely to be in Fuerteventura's favour when the referee sent of Dani for a use of the elbow that the linesman spotted. The Lanzarote coach, Paco Guitierez was sent of for leaving his technical area, but was able to get his instrunctions through to his charges by standing behind his keeper and using him as a messenger. As is often the case Lanzarote played better for a while with ten men and Anibal outmuscled a defender at the edge of the area and was then able to put the ball away.

The Lanzarote fans were delighted, but not for very long as the home side scored what turned out to be the winning goal when Futre put a clever ball through to Memo, who evaded the offside trap and slotted the winner.

Maciot may miss next week's game, but the confidence that Memo will take from this game means that he should be back to form that saw him lead the top scorer table last season.

About 2000 spectators saw the game and there were a few we knew.
