Football on Fuerteventura.

CD Corralejo

The highest placed team on Fuerteventura is CD Corralejo who play in the Spanish 3rd Division (Group 12 - Canary Islands). They play against other teams from across the Canary Islands. At the end of the season there are play - offs to decide who gets promoted to the Spanish Second Division.

Corralejo play their home games at the Vincente Careño ground at the southern end of the town (you can´t miss the floodlights). Matches are usually played on Sundays with a midday kick-off, but very often games are switched to an evening start at short notice.

Admission is 5 euros for adults and free for children. You buy a ticket from a whole in the wall at the northern end of the ground, next to the only entrance. You hand the ticket to a steward as you walk into the ground. Crowds vary between 100 and 250 people.

There is no shelter from the sun at the ground, so it´s advisable to wear a hat and plenty of suncream. There is a snack bar that sells food and drink just inside the ground. They also sell raffle tickets during the game.

CD Corralejo were League Champions in 2010, but did not get promoted because they lost in the play-offs.

Union Puerto del Rosario

The second highest placed team on the island are Union Puerto del Rosario who play at the Los Pozos ground in the capital, Puerto del Rosario. They play in the Regional Preferente (Canary Islands Group 1). This is a league below the Third Division, and promotion can be gained through the play off system.

The team play their games on Saturdays, with 5 pm being the usual kick off time. The teams in the same division are from Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

Admission is 4 euros for adults and free for children. Crowds can be from 150 people upwards. You buy a ticket from either the small window near the only entrance to the ground on the east side, of from a man standing in the entrance. You then hand the ticket to a man standing in the entrance!

Inside the ground is a snack bar that sells food and drink.
