A brand new shopping facility has opened in Puerto del Rosario. It is called Las Rotondas, which is Spanish for roundabouts because it is to be found between the sundial and the iron man roundabouts.
The facility is on a scale never before seen in Fuerteventura. There are two floors of parking at the basement levels and three main floors full of shops.

Some of the shops are internationally famous whilst others are less well known, but just as new and shiny. There is also a new Hyperdino supermarket in La Rotondas. The range of shops should induce day trips from Lanzarote and Grand canaria, whereas previously most of the retail therapy traffic was in the opposite direction.

The are a couple of lifts and the escalators between floors have no steps but are ramps inclined at about 30 degrees. The supermarket trollies are transported between the garages and the supermarket and this in itself makes an entertaining spectacle as the staff steer a train of 20 or 30 trollys up the couple of floors required. Their task is made easier by the way that the escalator grabs the trolleys.
Inside Las Rotondas is as enormous as you would imagine it to be from its external dimensions. This allows for large open areas on each floor, and even though the centre attracts thousands of people at a time, there seems to be pleanty of room to wander around the shops.
