The head of the Department of Transport and Communication of the Cabildo, Pilar Rodríguez held a meeting on the 21st of March with the Director of Fuerteventura Airport, Antonio Navarro. The meeting covered diverse points relating to transport on the island, and there was an exchange of opinions with respect to the problems which arise at the airport, with the aim of putting togeher possible solutions.
The central topic discusssed, and the reason for the meeting was the situation regarding taxis at the airport.The Cabildo intends to pass legislation at its next full meeting on 31st March. The aim of the proposal is to relieve the congestion that occurs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, the busiest days of the week.
Taxis from la Oliva and Tuineje, in conjunction with those of Puerto del Rosario, will offer a service that will aim to satisfy the needs of the travellers who arrive at the airport. The councillor is also in talks with representitives of the taxi associations of Antigua and Pájara, who put forward an alternarive proposal that could not be agreed.
As we understand it, at the moment only taxis from Puerto del Rosario and Antigua pick up from the airport. The new rules will allow more flexibility.
The concillor indicated that she did not expect the new regulations to be a complete solution, but expected them to help improve the situation.
