Today Thursday, 24 of November the inauguration of the Astronomical Observatory of Fuerteventura was held, in El Albergue de Tefía.
Attending the ceremony were the president of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, and the the Councillor of Education and Youth, Alejandro Jorge, as well as members of the Astronomical Society of Fuerteventura.
Initially the telescope that has been installed will be used by the Astronomical Society, although the initiative is aimed at the educational community. The Department of Education and Youth will work alongside the Society to develop educational programs.
The president of the Cabildo, Mario cabrera, praised the efforts of those that had allowed an installation of this Calibre to be created on the Island, and emphasised the educational benefits of the project.
The total cost of the project was around €30 000, and according to Councillor of Education and Youth, Alejandro Jorge, the presence of an Astronomical facility of this calibre on the island places Fuerteventura in a privleged position within the Archipelago in terms of Astronomy.
