Passengers flying in or out of Manchester Airport's terminal one yesterday (23rd August) at around 3.30 pm were delayed because of an isolated thunderstorm directly over Manchester airport.
The storm, which was centered just over the airport caused such severe flooding that part of the roof collapsed in the terminal building slightly injuring and drenching at least one person. Although the damage was minimal, and dealt with quickly there was some disruption as passengers on incoming flights had to be ferried to other terminals, with some being kept on board after landing for up to 50 minutes before being allowed to disembark. This caused confusion for those picking up friends and relatives.
Despite the severity of the storm, and the the fact that the weather forcast for the uk was gloomy for the forthcoming week the next day 24th August was very sunny and warm in the northwest of England.
Sunnyfuerteventura's intrepid reporter was flying from Fuerteventura Airport to Manchester for a short break and had to wait on the plane for an hour until transport to another terminal had been arranged.
