People who say that the number of tourists visiting the island has been declining in recent seasons will be surprised to learn that at least one of the main tourist resorts, Caleta de Fuste had no vacancies in any of the hotels at the height of the peak season this August.
Despite having two new hotels, the Costa Caleta and the new very large Sheriton hotel, hotel managers were having to ring round to find alternative acommodation for some guests from Italy Spain and the uk as the hotels were overbooked with an unprecidented rise in the number of visitors.
It is hoped that the majority of these extra visitors to the island will have enjoyed their stay and will return again next year or maybe even in quieter times of the season.
