Fuerteventura gives support after thousands get evacuated during a huge blaze on the island of Tenerife.

Fuerteventura has despached a total of 35 firemen to the island of Tenerife where a large fire is out of control.

The group, all qualified firefighters, were organised by the Cabildo, after a call from the Provincial Headquarters of the Civil defense and the Government of the Canary Islands. They left from from Morro Jable and will work in colaboration with the Consorcio de Bomberos de Tenerife.

Due to the very hot and dry conditions sparks from the fires are igniting other blazes and the situation was described as critical this morning. It has affected at least eight towns on the Island, with more than 8,000 people evacuated.

A fire on Gran Canaria is now said to be under control, both fires are thought to have been started by arsonists.
