The Department of Heritage restores Camarín (dressing room) of the Virgin of Antigua

This is a very rare piece of religious art in all of the island, which was in an advanced state of deterioration

The Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage of the City Council has completed the conservation work of the chapel of the Virgin of Our Lady of Antigua, after entrusting it to a restoration company that has been responsible for an intervention that, over the past two months , has allowed the restoration of a rare artistic element in the whole of religious culture containing the chapels and churches on the island

The dressing room, formerly used as a place in which to dress the virgin, especially when it came time to remove the image in procession , or, as now , to show off at the foot of the altar as they approach the fiestas.

The chapel of Our Lady of Antigua presides from on high altarpiece of the church of the same name, which has rear access from the second floor of the sacristy. The artitechtual style of this small rectangular room , finished on top by a dome with a lantern at its highest point, is in the baroque style.
