The new bus station at Gran Tarajal that should have been completed within nine months is still unfinished after two and a half years.
The project is still awaiting approval, despite the fact that tourists from cruise ships will soon begin to arrive at Gran Tarajal as a new bus service has been created from the port at Puerto del Rosario to the Tuineje region.
Tuineje put a request to the Cabildo in June 2004 for money to finance the project but up to now they have received only verbal promises. In April this year Tuineje took receipt of aluminum bus shelters to be installed for the benefit of passengers at the Centro de Salud de Gran Tarajal, in front of the town hall in Tuineje, in Las Playitas, and in front of the plaza pública in Tarajalejo. Tuineje is again awaiting the funds to install them, and currently they lie in storage.
Tuineje has also requested to move the position of the bus stop in Las Playitas to a different position, for road safety reasons and would like a second bus stop in Gran Tarajal. 50% of the population has to walk more than 2 kilometers to get to at the only bus stop due to the other bus stop was closed for the building of the new bus station.
