Águeda Montelongo welcomed passengers and crew of the cruise ship ´The World´ on their first visit to Fuerteventura

The tourist counsel of Fuerteventura, represented by, Águeda Montelongo, and Idaira Saavedra on behalf of the the Ayuntamiento of Puerto del Rosario, welcomed on the 27th of December Saevik Dag, captain of the luxurious cruise ship "The World", who arrived at Puerto del Rosario in the early morning. The 178 passengers left the ship after breakfast and were welcomed by staff of the tourist office They also proposed a toast to the first visit of the ship to Fuerteventura.

"The World" is a very luxurious cruise ship. The cabins are privately owned and most of the passengers live part of the year on the ship or rent the accommodation for several months. The ship sails under the flag of Nassau, allthough most of the passengers are Americans.

Águeda Montelongo emphasized how pleased she is with the increased numbers of cruiseships that are visiting Fuerteventura. It shows how important it is to finish the improvement of the facilities for cruiseships in the harbour of Puerto to ensure that passengers can be welcomed in the best way possible. "This season we will welcome on our island about 40.000 passengers of cruiseships. That means a spectacular increase compared to last year. And the amount of passengers will be even higher when the new harbour facilities are ready."

The ship is 196.35 Meter long,, 29.8 Meter wide and weighs 43.188 ton. She´s got a crew of 244 persons. That means that each passenger is catered for by almost 1.5 crewmember.

"The World" will already leave Puerto in the afternoon of the same day. She will continue her trip with visits to Funchal, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Dakar. Before she arrived in Puerto she already visited Arrecife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Cádiz, Gibraltar, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Niza, where she started her journey.

Before the ship leaves Puerto the "Campanitas", 23 children from the neighbourhood El Charco, will give a little concert for the passengers. They will sing Christmas carols and other popular songs. It´s the fourth year that this group gives a special musical touch to the arrival of a cruise ship during the Christmas season.
