Current Ryanair situation

Ryanair have just made an announcement to the press that they are pulling out of Fuerteventura.

The reason stated is that the local tourism group AIE failed to honor the commercial agreement with Ryanair to promote Fuerteventura as a tourist destination.

Ryanair will close all services to and from Fuerteventura, affecting Birmingham, with 3 flights per week, Bremen and Dublin with two, Dusseldorf four, East Midlands three, Frankfurt two, Liverpool and London with three and Shannon with one from the 31st January. Refunds will be given for flights booked after 31st January.

Ryanair confirmed that legal action for breach of the agreement, will continue against AIE and its individual members.

A meeting was held in Corralejo yesterday evening.

As far as the Ryanair issue is concerned the current situation is that Ryanair have been offered 80% of what they were expecting to get, but so far they have not responded to this offer. Someone else who attended the meeting said that they had been told by a couple of people that they had spoken to Ryanair and they had been told that their flights in February would not be happening and that they would be receiving a refund.

The Cabildo had not received a written notice of termination, or whatever it might be called, from Ryanair, but they expect that Ryanair will be pulling out.
