The Cabildo receive a delegation from Gambia Republic.

The President of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, and spokespersons for all the political groups, met on the 10th of this month with an official delegation from the Republic of Gambia as part of a series of activities entitled “Espacio casa África”. Discussions related to development, security and the fight against illegal immigration.

The delegation includes Mr Yaya Jallow, permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, and delegates of the Ministry, as well as Ibrahim Bun Sanneh of the National Drug Agency, and Rexxin King, advisor to the Ministry of the Interior, an ex minister who represents Gambia in the United Nations General Assembly.

During a meeting held on the 10th of this month the two sides agreed to collaborate in an informative campaign about the effects that irregular immigration have, and how these effects manifest themselves. The Cabildo will provide documentation and videos relating to the arrival of pateras (small open boats used to cross from Africa) and the deaths that are caused as a result. The Gambian government will distribute these to the media as part of an educative campaign.

Gambia Update

The Cabildo and Government of Gambia have signed a protocol with the hope that it will act as a first step towards establishing regular commercial and cultural collaborations.

The signing is part of the project called Espacio Casa África, which the Cabildo have been developing for several years. It has previously allowed the consolation of polical, cultural and social relationships with other countries such as the Republic of Cape Verde.
