LÁZARO CABRERA Demands Action from the Government to prevent the spread of Bird Flu from Mauritania.

Picudo Rojo Update
Work has begun to fell and destroy the palms affected by Picudo Rojo, or Red Palm Weevil.
Carnaval 2006
The Puerto del Carnaval begins soon, with events from the 17th February until the 5th March. Corralejo carnaval begins on the 2nd March. Antigua´s on the 23rd Feb.
Domestic Violence
The Cabildo and Canarian Government are working towards creating a new service to assist women affected by domestic violence.
New Visitor Centre at Cuevo De Llanos, near Villaverde.
The centre will allow you to explore the cave, which is a million years old, and is the oldest in all the archipelago. It is home to an endemic spider, Maiorerus Randoi, and has a subterranean gallery that is 400m in length and 7 to 10m metres wide.

The President of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, and spokespersons for all the political groups, met on the 10th of this month with an official delegation from the Republic of Gambia as part of a series of activities entitled “Espacio casa África”. Discussions related to development, security and the fight against illegal immigration.
Accreditation for the milk products laboratory.
The Department of Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca del Cabildo de Fuerteventura, under the direction of Juan Estárico, published the decision of ENAC has accredited the milk products laboratory of Fuerteventura’s microbiological analysis. This is the first time that such an accreditation has been awarde to any facility on the Canary Islands.
Road safety training
La consejería de Transportes y Comunicaciones del Cabildo de Fuerteventura, under the direction of Pilar Rodríguez, will run an educative program about road safety.
Digital breathalysers for the police
The department of Seguridad y Emergencias of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, has completed the distribution of 5 digital breathalysers by presenting one to the local police in Antigua.
