A recent meeting at the Cabildo that was attended by consejero de Medio Ambiente del Gobierno de Canarias and the consejero insular de Ordenación del Territorio, Jesús León, discussed the progress of the work in reclaiming the former tip at Los Estancos, Puerto del Rosario. The work is being carried out by the Canarian goverment.
Most of the difficult work of removing metallic, electrodomestic and other residues is practically finished. This has been completed to such an extent that the work of laying the topsoil has begun and it will soon be possible to begin the planting of indiginous species. This will complete the recovery and restauration of the area.
Mario Cabrera said that the completion of this work will allow the first phase of the creation of the Technological Park planned for the site to begin. He said that the Cabildo were in discussion with the Canarian Government to create a plan to assign the area special importance as an area for the production of renewable energies.
The site is well located for a project of this kind as it has easy access to the electricity network. If the area is given the special status that the Cabildo are seeking it will help attract business by means of financial incentives.
