Cristina Spínola, presents her book "Sola"

The journalist Cristina Spínola was in Fuerteventura to present her new book, "Sola", or in English Alone, which describes the story of the 26 days she spent cycling alone through the Canary Islands archipeligo.

The aim of the cycle ride was to publicise the fight for equal rights for women. She spoke to many people on the journey, which she called the "Route to the Equality of Opportunities in Canaries".

The Mayor of La Oliva, Claudina Moral, thanked Cristina for choosing La Oliva to present the book, which is already in bookstores throughout the Canaries, and applauded her for the bravery, strength and perseverence as a woman that wanted to fight for equality in a different way, carrying a message for all the Archipelago. This should mobilise us to continue the fight, because if we as women do not do it, then no one will do it.

Cristina recalled that the journey across Fuerteventura “turned out to be hard, because it coincided with some of the hottest weather, although the people helped me a lot, lifting my spirits, which gave me comfort”. Cristina recognizes that the experience was difficult, but announced that she would continue working “to avoid discrimination for us as women, which unfortunately continues in Canaries”. Cristina will be in the street market in Corralejo on Friday, where she will sign books, and subsequently travels to Teguise to continue to present her book "Alone".
