Fuerteventura was hit by very high winds on Thursday this week. The winds were coming from the east, and the waves on the sea were fabulous to watch.
The wind, which settled down into the afternoon. caused the temporary closing of the Atlantico centre in Corralejo, for safety reasons.
There were also problems in Puerto del Rosario when one of the dredgers that are being used to deepen the harbour to allow bigger curise ships to visit the harbour (see Puerto del Rosario Facelift for more information) was blown towards the shore and ran aground near the nautical school.
The weather had been very pleasant for three weeks and the stormy weather was something of a surprise as normally the winds are from the NNE and so the harbours are built to protect from strong seas that are running in that direction
