Three Kings visit Fuerteventura

The main day of Christmas for Spanish children is not the 25th December but the night of the 5th January. This is the night that the children get their presents. Good children get nice presents and bad children get coal.

In Puerto del Rosario the crowds of excited children and (adults) collect at the port around 5pm for the arrival of the three Kings, who at the birth of Jesus brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh and now bring presents for the children of Spain.

The three Kings arrive, with the sounding of lots of ships sirens, in a tug boat, and then form a procession around Puerto, along the Dock road then back along ... to finish at the Belen display near the bus station.

The parade consists of the three Kings, camels, donkeys and floats loaded with gifts for children and a float full of coal to scare naughty children. On either side of each King is a huge basket of sweets which are thrown to the children causing a mad scrabble of both children and adults to pick up the sweets.
