New connections from tour operators Aarhus Charter and Apollo Kuoni

The tour operators Aarhus Charter and Apollo Kuoni have opened up two new connections between Fuerteventura and the cities of Aarhus (Denmark) and Katowice (Poland), respectively. The flights began on Monday the 22nd December and will be weekly, according to information provided by the Cabildo.

In addition, during 2009 another route will open connecting Fuerteventura with the Danish capital of Copenhagen. This will also be operated by Apollo Kuoni. In this way, with respect to the new connection with Aarhus, a connection will be made for the first time between Fuerteventura and the Danish city, which with a total of 800 000inhabitants within the metropolitan area is the second largest city in Denmark in terms of population.

The councillor for tourism of te Cabildo, Águeda Montelongo, declared that the opening of these routes "opens an interesting outlook of new possibilities, which is already going to mean, throughout next year, thousands of new tourists, that is rather interesting considering the fact of the appeal to visitors that do not know Fuerteventura, and if the results are positive, we can get attention of the airline companies and tour operators of the type interested in opening new connections or in increasing the frequency of existing flights.

In this sense, according to the information used by the department of tourism, bwetween 2007 and 2008 the number of tourists that arrive in Fuerteventura has incresed by 50 %; this being the case with this country it suggests the possibility for growth in the short and medium term throughout Scandanavia.

With rspect to Poland, the numbers are even greater, with an increase of around 150% in the last two years, and there are expectations that the growth will continue in the same way throughout the next campaign.

"According to what the tour operators tell us, this is a tendency which will be maintained in 2009, and in as much we are already working on the position of Fuerteventura in the Polish and Danish markets, counting on the advantages of the Canaries, which already have a high importance on the part of the Danish tourists, who find in the Islands a welcoming destination where they can escape the harsh Nordic winter. Talking about Poland, this is about a country that has experienced a recent economic growth, that has seen different effects of the economic crisis to other European countries, and this has been beneficial for the interests of the island's tourism in the sense that they are better positioned to travel", concluded the councillor.
