
The Blue flag ripples for another summer in the zone known as the Grandes Playa of Corralejo. This morning a ceremony, to celebrate the raising of the flag was carried out. The ceremony was presided over by the Mayoress of La Oliva, Claudina Morales, and attended by representatives of the municipality and and the director general of Organisation and Promotion of Tourism, Raimundo Domínguez.
To be able to renew the Blue Flag, the area known as Grandes Playas had to comply with a series of requirements. Besides guaranteeing the water to be of optimum quality, other standards relating to rescue, first aid, information and environmental education, the removal of physical barriers and attention to the needs of disable people, sustainable management of the shore, and integral management of urban wastewater had to be met.
The councillor for the Environment and Beaches, Genaro Saavedra, emphasised the important effort that had been made, especially in cleaning “with cleaning teams that are dedicated solely to the cleaning of our beaches who operate all year” and thanked the Cabildo of Fuerteventura for their contribution “because we can always rely on machinery for sifting that allows us to to comb the sand and carry out deep cleaning”. For her part the, the Mayoress also referred to the investment made in lifesaving equipment for the beaches and enumerated distinct actions that are aimed at improving the touristic image of Corralejo, such as improvements in gardens and new plazas.
