Three Detained After Bodies of Missing British Couple are found.

It has been reported in La Provincia, a Canarian newspaper, that police have arrested three people, including a father and son, after the discovery of the two bodies close to El Roque in the north of Fuerteventura.

Brian and Tina Johnson, 59 and 58 respectively, were last seen on Tuesday 11th of July. Their family became alarmed when they were unable to contact their parents, who had lived on the island for several years. When their parents did not respond to the messages that had been left for them the local police were contacted.

After being alerted the police then visited a house in El Cotillo and as a result of what they found the investigation led to the questioning of a local man who is believed to have owed the couple rent. Even though no bodies had been found at this stage, he was detained on suspicion of being involved in the couple's disappearance.

The police organised a search of the local area, and were in the process of mobilising volunteers when the search was called off after dogs belonging to local hunters found the bodies in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The couple's yellow pickup was found was found in the marina area of Corralejo. The car had been thoroughly cleaned and the couple's papers had been found inside it. It is thought that the car may have been left at the marina to give the impression that Brian and Tina had gone on a journey using one of the ferries that operate between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

The case has been declared 'secreto del sumario' to allow the local police to conclude their investigations, including analysing evidence found at the scene and in the car.

The British community in La Oliva is a close community, and this news has come as a great shock to all the members of the community.
