U.D. Fuerteventura Celebrated In The Town Hall The Ascent To 2ªB

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, along with other representatives of the Cabildo received the directors, players and coaching staff of UD Fuerteventura presenting them with gifts as part of the promotion celebrations after their return to 2nd division B football. The celebrations were well deserved as at the end of last season UD Fuerteventura narrowly missed out on promotion after being well in the lead on points throughout most of the season and just missed out during the playoffs, never having lost a game, only due to the away goal rule! It therefore took UD two seasons to return to higher level football.

Mario Cabrera, Ana Padilla, Manuel Miranda, Edilia Pérez, Águeda Montelongo y Claudio Gutiérrez from the Cabildo attended along with the directors Cristóbal Calero, Alejandro de León, the captain Germán Suárez, and all the players and the coaching staff.

Mario Cabrera, in his speech of congratulation stated that “to take the name of Fuerteventura to the highest possible level is the objective that all we were al seeking, a task that you carry out in the world of sport, and that others aim do in the business world and in politics. Ana Padilla emphasized that “in addition to enhancing the image of the Island, this creates an example for our youth, that they find in the success of U.D. Fuerteventura an image that impels to them to get more involved in sport and to avoid more antisocial behaviours”. Manuel Miranda declared that he felt “proud to attend an act that serves as tribute to the name of Fuerteventura nationally”.
