For The First Time The Kayak Tour Around Fuerteventura Visits La Isla De Lobos

The IX Vuelta a Fuerteventura en Kayak (Kayak tour around Fuerteventura) will be held from the 25 of August till the 1 of September. A maximum of 40 participants will cover 330 kilometers in one week and will make a complete tour around the island during that period.

The ninth edition of the Vuelta a Kayak a Fuerteventura was presented in a press conference on the fifth of July at the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. The 330 kilometers are divided into eight stages and will this year take the participants for the first time to the Isla de Lobos, where they will spend the night after completing the first stage. The Vuelta en Kayak a Fuerteventura is organised by the Consejería de Deportes y Caza (counsel of sports and hunting) of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura together with the Federación Insular de Piragüísmo (the islands kayak federation). The event is also supported by the local goverments, the Red Cross, the police forces and is sponsored by several businesses.

According to Edilia Pérez, the islands sports counsillor, the program of this ninth edition is ambitious, because every time the events reaches a higher level of organisation to ensure that the 40 participants get a unique oportunity to get to know Fuerteventura from a completely different point of view.

Mario Cabrera, president of the Cabildo, explained that the Vuelta en Kayak has become a consolidated part of the summer sports program on Fuerteventura and gives the oportunity to develop this branch of watersports in which Fuerteventura stands at the top within the Canaries. Fuerteventura is also among one of the most important kayak schools for the whole of Spain. Apart from that the Vuelta en Kayak is a different way of showing the beauty of the island to the rest of the world. For that reason the kayak tour is also present on various tourist fairs.

The last to speak on the press conference was Antonio Salmerón who represented the Federación de Piragüismo (the kayak federation), who explained that this Vuelta en Kayak forms part of the preparations of the Canarian kayak team that will participate in the Spanish kayak championships that will be held in Pontevedra later this year.
