This morning, the radio station “Radio Ecca” was involved in the finalisation of the transfer of four hectares of land known as la Montaña de la Muda, located within the protected natural area of Vallebrón. The land contains some interesting archaeological features and is also an area with interesting landscape features.
The transfer is quite timely as it coincides with the “World Day of the Environment” and is “a magnificent way to celebrate the World Day of the Environment, because will permit us to recover a zone of high archaeological and landscape value, threatened by the military use which had generated a strong social protest in Fuerteventura”.
The presentation of this agreement of transfer was carried out this morning in the Town hall of Fuerteventura, in an act that also served to present the program of activities to celebrate the World Day of the Environment.
On the part of Radio Ecca attended al act the president of its Foundation, Lucas Pérez, and the general director of Radio Ecca, María del Carmen Palmés. María del Carmen Palmés, spoke about the outcry which from 20 years ago created the fight for Fuerteventura to reinstate the civil use of a space of high natural and historic value. Thanks to that, Radio Ecca has been able to support this aim.
In turn, Lucas Pérez explained that Radio Ecca has worked always with the contribution of the City Hall of
Fuerteventura to develop its educational work, “now from September we begin a new phase, with programming that adapts to the formative needs of each municipality, and in this new phase also we include the support of
the City Hall”
La Montaña de la Muda one was the center of a protest social movement in Fuerteventura to ends of the 80’s before the military projects began in the zone. At that time archaeological examinations were done that verified the existence of ceramics and remainders of aboriginal burials, which justified that La Montaña de la Muda should be considered as a Zone of Cultural Interest. Nevertheless, the military maintains its hold on land of around a hectare, although containing only aerials and other necessary constructions, it offers the 4 hectares to Radio Ecca for it’s educational services.
“With the recovery now of these 4 hectares we can recreate the environment of La Montaña de la Muda. We can eliminate old constructions and diverse material that are currently in this zone”, explained the president of the city Hall, Mario Cabarera.
