Puerto del Rosario, March 27, 2009.
The new Occupational Centre for Disabled Southern opened its doors this afternoon for the first time, with the celebration of the opening ceremony organized by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands Government and the City of Tuineje. About a hundred people attended the event, highlighting the presence of ten users of the site which will start using the facilities and their families.

The new center was opened at the beginning of the act by the president of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, the Vice-Minister of Social Welfare and Immigration of the Government of the Canary Islands, Natividad Cano, Mayor Tuineje, Salvador Delgado, and the adviser for Social Affairs, Health, Housing consumption and Immigration Hall, Victor Alonso. Following the ribbon-cutting, a visit by the new facility and invited attendees to a cocktail.
Users and the staff were also welcome to all attendees, enacting a number of activities engaged in their daily tasks. It should be noted that various elements of the decoration of the center have been made by the users during their previous stay in the premises of the center of Puerto del Rosario.
Mario Cabrera stressed in his speech that "often the debate on decentralization of services is lost in the drive and major infrastructure projects. But I am of the opinion that the real balance is built from the ground up. Today the opening of these facilities come to mean that a significant number of users in central and south are offered a crucial service, very important to them and their families, and that is a goal whose attainment we are pleased .
"That way, we appreciate the close cooperation we have with the Government of the Canary Islands, which has provided significant funding, and municipalities, in this case the Tuineje, a town with which we have raised another goal with the next Manning Center for Psychosocial Rehabilitation of the Olive, which is located in the same area where he recently opened the new Center for Children Day. "
Victor Alonso said that "the services provided by the Occupational Center of the Southern Zone will focus on decentralizing the 10 users who until now had to commute daily to Puerto del Rosario, a center that will now be taking 20 people. In both cases we are talking about figures that are below the capacity of each center, which will carry out all activities under the best conditions, both in Great Tarajal as in the capital. "
The new center is located at Calle Fuerteventura s / n Gran Tarajal (in the area of The Palm, near the Health Center), occupying an area of about 500 m2. Its construction has involved an investment of approximately 275,000 euros, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Tuineje and the Canary Islands Government.
Activity is expected to start full week after Easter, and with all users using the new facilities. The allocation of the new center includes a workshop area of activities, a lounge, a kitchen, a patio with shower, two toilets adapted for use by disabled persons, offices, etc.
Its operating hours will be 9 to 14 hours, and will provide a program of activities designed to foster social inclusion and employment of disabled people, all within what is set in the Plan of Care for the Disabled. The Cabildo of Fuerteventura offers its users, both the Center for Puerto del Rosario as the new Grand Tarajal, a transport service, thereby facilitating the development of activities for families and avoiding having to travel.
