The Cabildo of Fuerteventura confirms the shooting of the Star Wars saga in Jandía.

The Fuerteventura Film Commission confirmed recently that the production company Disney already has the necessary approval to carry out the shooting of a feature film in Jandía during the coming months. The representative of the Fuerteventura Film Commission, Edilia Pérez, explained that "during the last months we have been working with representatives of the producers Surf Film and Disney to finalize the locations and to prepare a work schedule for the film set". This shoot consolidates Fuerteventura as a natural global film set, which will promote the island at an international level.

Fuerteventura Film is a public not for profit organization that helps organize film shoots, short films, television and advertising, and is managed by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. Among its objectives, it seeks to assist in the filming of audiovisual projects of scientific, informative or recreational natures, both national and international, making the Island a suitable natural setting for outdoor shooting and facilitating the necessary assistance for foreign producers to create their audiovisual projects, bringing them closer to all the resources and professionals offered by local institutions and companies in the sector in Fuerteventura, among others. In addition, it participates in cinema fairs to promote Fuerteventura as a suitable destination for filming.

The filming will be of the eighth installment of the Star Wars saga. Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi, which will feature Game of Thrones actor Mark Stanley, as a Rogue Knight of Ren who was murdered in The Force Awakens flashback scene, according to a Star Wars expert. Poignantly, it will also feature the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Fisher, who died just after Christmas, had already completed filming her scenes before her death.
