Information about the Proposals for Special Zones for the Protection of Birds on Fuerteventura

The Department of the Environment of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura has put the document that contains the proposed areas to be designated as Special Protection Zones for Birds (Zona de Especial Protección para Aves (ZEPA)) into the public arena, so that interested parties can consult them. The document, which has been developed and submitted by the Department of the Environment of Canaries Government, can be consulted in the in the offices of the Department of the Environment of the Cabildo (Medio Ambiente del Cabildo) until the 21st May, between the hours of 9.00 am and 2.00 pm.

The document consists of text and maps show the areas proposed as ZEPA’s , and it has been made available so that citizens of Fuerteventura can assess the proposals suggested by the Canaries Government and contribute to its development.

EgretThe development of ZEPA’s has come about as a result of European legislation related to the conservation of wild birds. The regulations are related to a list of 181 threatened species (79/409 annex I), some of which are to be found on Fuerteventura.
