The Departmment for Infrastructure of the Cabildo, directed by Jesús León, reports that the works to improve and recondition the FV20 road, which is being carried out between Tesjuate and Puerto del Rosario has resulted in the re-routing of traffic being necessary due to the laying of asphalt and road widening. The works mean that drivers should take extreme care and respect the signalling that will be in use throughout the period that the work is being carried out.
The current work is part of a larger project that involves reconditioning of the road between Puerto del Rosario and Antigua, which began in November of 2005 and is expected to be completed after the summer of 2006. This 4.2 million euro project falls within the Plan for Road Improvements for Fuerteventura.
“The first phase of these works affects the section between Puerto del Rosario and Llanos Pelados. The works consist of the creation of two new roundabouts, one to access the Zurita industrial zone, as well as an access to the Municipal Cemetery and the Asomada Road. The other roundabout will give access to Llanos Pelados for the Zurita environmental complex”, explained Jesús León.
“This reconditioning serves to relocate all the accesses to the roundabouts, avoiding the existing left turns, which are points of danger on a road with an average traffic count of 10,000 vehicles a day” stated the Minister of Transport.
The works will allow for the creation of a footpath of width 1.5 metres on each side of the road that is separated from the road by 0.75 metres.”At the same time all the road will be resurfaced as its current state shows considerable wear that has resulted in a decrease in the safety conditions on the road” he explained. At the same time new drainage and water piping will be carried out.
In conjunction with this first phase the Government of the Canaries has put in motion the works for the project of improvement of the second phase, which covers the section of the FV20 between Llanos Peladosto Antigua with a latest completion date of December.
According to the Minister for Infrastructure, “This project is a continuation of the first one, with the same work being carried out, as well as the construction of roundabouts to access Casillas del Ángel and Ampuyenta, as well as a T junction with lanes at Almácigo”.
