Managed by Genaro Saavedra, the ayuntamiento of La Oliva has started up a new campaign of cleaning, in this case by providing waste bins for the disposal of canine excrement. There will also be provision of “pooper scoopers” and plastic bags.
The Environment Department indicates that a total of 20 bins are being provided in Corralejo, being placed in the childrens’ parks and public spaces as well as in el paseo de Bristol, la Avenida Juan Carlos I, and in la Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen
"The mess produced by the canine excrement in the public routes is a problem in towns like Corralejo, and for that reason we have started up this initiative”, commented Genaro Saavedra, who further explained that “the owners of the animals must raise there awareness of the problem". It is their responsibility to gather the excrements. Now they know that they have special waste bins with bags to facilitate this and that is by the good of everyone”.
Alongside the installation of these waste bins there will be a public awareness campaign, and special pooper scoopers to facilitate the collection of the excrement will be given out. In addition, informative posters will be placed in strategically important points and environmental education has been organized in schools.
