The avenue consisting of a pedestrian walkway and cycle path in Caleta de Fuste which connects the Atlantico shopping centre the and new hotels in the south of Caleta to the town is about to be completed.
This project is part of the "Plan de Infraestructuras Turísticas" and was created "in order to facilitate the movement of people in the locality without them having to use a vehicle, offering in addition for residents and tourists the possibility of taking a walk in a zone with superb views to the sea" explained thel consejero of the area, Jesús de León.
The construction of the avenue which provides two kilometers of walking and bike lanes has cost the Corporación Insular 700,000 euros, with works that have taken 10 months to complete using 17 workers and two excavators.
The avenue consists of a walkway three meters wide, a cycle track of two, and one strip which will be a gardened area running alongside the road. There is a modern lighting system, with lampposts located each 20 meters, and a network of drains ready to evacuate the water that could cover the FV-20 in case of rain.
The conclusion of this project, according to the technicians has needed an extension of two months, as they are also to construct a roundabout to ease access to Caleta in the area by the old post office which at the moment is a T junction. The objective, "is to improve the conditions of access to the administrative center of El Castillo, (Caleta de Fuste), where the school, the post office, police station, and other services are located.
"In addition, 150,000 euros will be spent on landscaped borders and security railings for the avenue”, says Jesús de León.
