Dolphins at Caleta de Fuste

Dolphins

A school of dolphins or small whales was seen a couple of days ago, just off the shore of Nuevo Horizonte, heading towards Caleta de Fuste. This is the second time such a school has been seen there recently.

The animals came to within about 30 metres of the shore and provided a delightful free spectacle for those of us that were out and about at the time. Given the size of the animals at about 3-4 metres, that they were quite slow swimming, and very black, our best guess is that they were either long fin (Globicephala melas) or short fin (Globicephala macrorhynchus) pilot whales.
