Fuerteventura is one of the most requested holiday destination in Spain via the Internet. This is reflected in the statistics for 2011 from the main online travel agency in the country, muchoviaje.com .

The Hosteltur.com newspaper, which is specialized in tourism-reference, notes that during the year, the sun and beach destinations have prevailed among the Spanish, and more specifically the islands.

The order of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have been the most popular using muchoviaje.com in the first eleven months of 2011. Then there are the islands of Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca.

This tendency toward island destinations in the Spanish market fits the Tourism Situation Report 2011 of the Tourism Institute of Spain, which shows a shift of tourist destinations from North Africa to the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands.
