Over 45 students from the Canary Island Employment Service reforest the area of Morro Velosa (Betancuria) with native plants

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries; director Natalia Evora, is developing a reforestation activity transplanting to the area of Morro Velosa (Betancuria) 400 specimens of native plants from nurseries.

This action is part of the training program in flora and fauna of the Cabildo NaturSavia. Reforestation and attention to wildlife.

After several months learning the previous work selection and preparation of seeds, preparation of seedbeds and by the care of the plants during their early stages of development, the workshop students reforestation practices begin next week.

The species included in this reforestation ( heather, wild olive, canary and African peralillo or nursery, Among others) have been selected based on the abundance of their populations in that region as well as their adaptability to environmental conditions in the area of Morro Velosa.

Natalia Evora highlighted the implementation of a novel technique of root fertilizer in reforestation of the council for this year, consisting of specialty fertilizers applied directly to the roots plants, "which allows them to adapt more rapidly and with greater chance of survival to the new environment where they are located".

According to Évora, this action "will continue recovering populations of plant species that thrive in moist habitat Fuerteventura, while Natursavia students can complete their training in the flora directly by the reforestation of an area as environmentally sensitive island, transplanting the seedlings in which they have been working several months ".
