Photographs of Gran Tarajal, pesca altura, deep sea fishing competition.
The Gran Tarajal fishing competition was held between the 7th to the 9th September.
The second day's biggest fish weighed in at 272kg.
The third and final day saw the capture of several blue marlin, the largest of which weighed in at an enormous 358 kg. This particular specimen made the other fish that were hung next to it look like tiddlers! It was caught by the Lydya, a boat based in Fuerteventura, skippered by MiguelAngel Rodriguez.
During the morning of the last day there was a competition for children, in the harbour which had an entry of around 60 children. In this competition the children caught the fish, they were tallied up and then put back in the sea. There were various prizes, including prizes for the most fish caught, the biggest fish etc.
The event allowed the administration Tuineje to highlight their municipality as a tourist destination. Two new hotels opened in Las Playitas this year, and these offer a high standard of accommadation close to the event.
