On Saturday September 1 the 51 feet Sun Odyssey “Isla de Fuerteventura” owned by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura returned in Puerto del Rosario from a nine month trip around the world. The yacht left Fuerteventura on November 25 last year. During the nine month journey they visited the Galapagos, Australia and the Seychelles and crossed the Panama Channel and the Suez Channel.
Family, friends and all other fans of ship and crew could keep track of the “Isla de Fuerteventura” through the ships own website. The crew existed mainly
of Majoreros and during the trip the were ambassadors of the island, promoting Fuerteventura where ever they went.
On the last miles of the trip the ship was escorted by the kayaks who covered the last section of the “Vuelta a Fuerteventura en Kayak”
Several ships accompanied the “Isla de Fuerteventura” when she entered the harbour and all ships blew their horn to salute ship and crew. A large crowd of
family, friends, sponsors and all other fans where giving the crew a warm welcome, cheering and applauding.
As a tradition the captain Tomas Pérez Chacon and his first mate were thrown overboard in the harbour just before the ship put the lines out for the last time.
