Ever wondered why the signs tell you about the sand on the road south of Corralejo? Wonder no more. This van was heading south before he somehow went to the left and then to the right towards the dunes. A policeman told me the driver had been very lucky. So were the rest of us.

The are displays from all sectors, and you can buy anything from dried strawberries to a crane. There are plenty of hamburger/beer/ice cream stalls.

Today, there was a protest in Puerto del Rosario against NATO's presence on the island. The protest consisted of a cavalcade of cars, driving through Puerto del Rosario, along the road in front of the port and then to the military barracks. The cavalcade consisted of over a hundred different vehicles, which were festooned with flags and banners and blaring their horns. The number 6 bus to Corralejo, was in the middle of the cavalcade but we assume he was following his normal route!
Outside the baracks a crowd gathered and the protest consisted of the waving of several large banners and some organised chanting that went on for around 20 minutes.

There are notices prominently displayed around Antigua explaining that the measures required for the removal of abandoned vehicles have been put in place. It seems there are a large number of vehicles that are in need of removal. We suspect a few belong to property owners who leave a run around parked up while they are away for a couple of months. Should make for an interesting spate of people reporting their cars stolen to be told that the police have them.

Ther have been several dolphin and whale corpses washed ashore recently. Four so far this year. One theory is that military manouvers in the area are resulting in fatalities, as the sonar used by ships interferes in some way with the animals. As Nato has an exercise in the area in April enviromentalists are keeping an eye on the situation.

Lots of the visitors had come down to the port for "los Archipencos", a raft race that is part of the carnaval celebrations, but due to high winds and rough seas, the event has been postponed until next Sunday. Should be worth a visit.
