Sport on Fuerteventura
The fact that Fuerteventura is a windy island, makes it a perfect venue for watersports. However there are many other sporting opportunities to be had on the island. The links on the right will take you to the relevent pages.
Cycling
Cycling is very popular on the island and as there are so many miles of track, mountain biking is far more popular than road cycling. Having said this lots of the tarmacced roads are relatively new and in good condition. There are several cycling events held each year on the island, including a sponsored ride in support of breast cancer research, that is held each year in La Oliva.
There are now published cycle routes produced by the Cabildo (Island Council) for various routes around the island on tarmac and dirt track.
Fishing
There are zillions of fish around the coast of Fuerteventura, and the sport is good whether you are knocking out a few tiddlers for fun with the children, or after the big stuff from a boat. For more details see the Fuerteventura fishing page.
Motorcycling
Organised trips are available, on motorbikes, quad bikes and trikes , and there are regular motorcross meetings on the island.
Running
Lots of people who run here are happy with an early morning jog, but the variety of terrain offers scope for those who wish to be more serious about their running.
Walking and Hiking
There are plenty of short walks between points serviced by busses, and it is also possible to go hiking over the mountains to experience the magnificent views to be had on the island.
There is now a whole network of well signposted walking routes over the whole island.
Watersports
Where better than a windy island to take part in surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving and kiteboarding?
