Corralejo to El Cotillo by Car
This tour takes about 3 hours, the condition of the track means that it is just about passable in a car. It would be better to make the trip in a vehicle with a bit of ground clearance.
The track begins close to the bus station in Corralejo and ends close to the lighthouse at El Cotillo. From there the track back to the village of El Cotillo is easily navigated.
At the start of the journey, Lanzarote is clearly visible, and as seems to be usual, we saw a ferry heading off somewhere via the west coast of Fuerteventura.
The distance covered is about fifteen miles and there are only two or three small settlements and a few isolated houses along the route. There is a development called Origo Mare being built close to Majanicho, which will no doubt make this route busier when it is completed.
It is probably a good idea to take drinks with you as we did not find anywhere to buy things along the way.
Soon we arrived at Majanicho, a little village situated on the edge of a large bay. It is well worth a visit. The chapel there is very pretty and typical of those on the island. The bay looks very shallow and well protected and is therefore and ideal spot for a fishing village. There are pretty views across the bay.
Further alont the track we came to an almost desterted beach, except for a couple from London who were playing bat and ball. There is nothing like that sight to remind me of the cold summer holidays of my childhood in England!
The length of the northern coast is popular with surfers and those looking for an isolated sunbathing spot. We took several photographs of the surfers along the route
When the lighthouse, Faro de Toston came into view we spotted the windsurfer, and stopped for a while to watch and take more photographs.
The road from the lighthouse is a better road, leading to El Cotillo. There we have an interesting spectacle of tarmacced wide roads that go nowhere in particular.
On arriving in El Cotillo we visited the El Toston bar for a well deserved drink and a lovely salad each.
